The Lauhala Gift Basket: In Old Hawaii, the leaves or "lau" were handwoven to create functional items such as hats, canoe sails, mats and baskets. Today, Hawaiians still enjoy using lauhala baskets for gift giving.

Lauaʻe, a native Hawaiian fern, is characterized by its fragrant smell, which is reminiscent of maile, and by the round spores that often dot its leaves. Lauaʻe is used for hula adornments, lei, and to add a pleasant scent to kapa cloth. These lovely towels would be equally at home in your kitchen or bathroom.
The Story: Created by artist Palapala (Barbara) Chung. Palapala's company is based in Maui, Hawaii where she designs and carves original blockprints of Hawaiian motifs and subjects, combining them with contemporary form and function. The images are flora and fauna found on the islands or subjects related to important aspects of Hawaiian culture. Palapala’s artwork is inspired by her love of Hawai’i – the ocean, the hula and the Hawaiian culture. 20 x 28 inches, 100% cotton. Care Instructions: Machine wash warm, tumble dry medium.
