Island Essence is Powered by Local Wahine on Maui

Island Essence was launched in 1990 by Denise Diamond, a master aromatherapist who used her knowledge of Hawaii's fragrances and essences to create spa treatments for all the spas in Hawaii and the Pacific Rim.  The first factory was in Ulapalakua.

Today, Island Essence is co-owned by Henry and Lili Brocklehurst who also live in upcountry Maui.  Lili was raised on the Big Island of Hawaii and is a talented gardener--contributing to our kitchens and photo shoots as needed!  Lili is also a mom of three boys and is interested in the natural, healthy, holistic lifestyle that Maui offers.

The factory today is located in Kahului, Maui and is powered by an all female staff--all of whom were either born here or in the Pacific Islands, and more than half of us are also wahine.  Wahine--pronounced wä hēnē--means a woman of Hawaiian or Polynesian descent.

The staff at Island Essence are incredibly loyal, supportive of one another, and very hard-working---and we all love doing the best we can to share Hawaii with others, especially our lovely customers.
