The Maile Rainforest Collection is based on the beautifully unique and fresh house fragrance added to custom treatments that we supply to premier Hawaiian spas.
Fragrance: Clean, fresh, woodsy, with a pure, slightly sweet, green fragrance—the unique, intoxicating smell of a Hawaiian rainforest is treasured equally by both women and men.
The Story: Why is Maile so expensive? Maile is harvested by expert gatherers who have to trek into densely forested, hard to access areas. Some farmers have tried to harvest Maile but it is a tricky process. Wherever it grows, Maile is temperamental and making it into a lei is time-consuming and complicated. Leaves are fragrant when bruised or crushed and smells like the common non-native lauaʻe or maile-scented fern commonly used in landscaping. The flowers also have the same nice fragrance as the leaves. Stripped bark gives a sweet odor resembling vanilla. All parts of the plant contain coumarin, which gives Maile a pleasant fragrance.
Ingredient Spotlight: Organically Grown Aloe Vera Gel—aloe is a cactus-like plant that is well known for its healing and medicinal properties; aloe vera gel is antiviral, antibacterial, and cell-regenerating and is used for burns, frostbite, psoriasis and cold sores; hydrating for skin, effective in fighting acne, and slows the signs of aging.
