Island Essence 30th Anniversary

A lot has changed on the island of Maui over the course of the past 30 years, but the quest for fragrant, healthy skin has been a nourishing constant that’s spanned across decades, from 1990 through today.

That’s the year when Denise Diamond first humbly started Island Essence from her Ulupalakua home. A veteran horticulturist, Diamond took her longtime knowledge of flowers and worked to create perfumes and body oils that were healing, fragrant and fresh.

From there she tinkered her handcrafted recipes to help build a company that’s grown to become the island’s largest local producer of spa, body, and bath products. From an original line with just nine different offerings (four types of perfumes and five different body oils), Island Essence has expanded to include over three hundred products that holistically heal, nurture your skin, and remind you of days in the islands.

Take a look at the Vintage Collection and you’ll not only find classic, original products, like mango coconut body lotion, but also labels that feature the artwork of famed painter, Eric Gill. His airbrush images from the 1930s hearken back to Hawaii’s “Golden Era” of Pan Am Clippers and luxury liners, where his images of lei makers, fishermen, and hula dancers emerged as some of the most romantically iconic memories of days in Hawaii.

Though Diamond sold the company in 2008 to current owner, Henry Brocklehurst, he remains committed to original values like sourcing the finest local ingredients and working with local farmers, to blending, pouring, and packaging everything right here as a Maui-made product.

“We probably have the island’s best smelling warehouse,” says general manager, Charade, where scents from kukui, olena, and hibiscus all dance in the air amidst whiffs of maile, pikake, noni, and coffee.

Whether it’s tamanu oil from Hawaii Island or lavender from Keokea, the vegan, paraben-free ingredients that go into all of our island products are meant to not only highlight wisdom Hawaiians have known for centuries, but also showcase the natural splendor of plants found growing in the islands.

Spa directors have trusted our products for a period of over two decades, but as a way to commemorate 30 years and celebrate the milestone, Island Essence is going direct to consumer by offering a special, 30% discount across all of our products online!

The offer is valid from from January 27th to February 4th Midnight HST to save 30% across their line of local, and portions of sales help protect our oceans through donations to Love The Sea.

Mahalo to everyone for all the support, and we are truly blessed with the opportunity to work and live on an island like Maui and help bring that beauty to your door!
